Discover all about how your Dote Buddy monitor and app connects and what you need for optimal use.
The Dote Buddy monitor requires Bluetooth to connect it to your phone and an internet signal so it can stream the video and sound to your phone, save your data and more.
Getting started:
If you’ve not yet set up your monitor and app, go here first and work through the app setup and monitor pairing process.
The importance of internet signal strength:
Your Buddy will only work well if it has a strong internet connection. It will automatically choose the strongest internet connection available, which could be via a WiFi network, a phone hotspot or a mobile router.
Check out this page to learn about how to connect to the internet while out and about.
WiFi Settings:
If you open monitor settings/monitor/wifi settings, you can see the available networks and which one your Buddy is connected to (the one with the tick).

To add a new network, ensure it is within range, available and working, and private not public. You can also tap on a network (to choose it) to get Buddy to connect to it. Buddy will automatically scan for available networks. Refresh button?
Storing networks:
Your Buddy can store or remember up to 5 networks and will quickly connect to one with the strongest signal. If Buddy is roaming or switching between networks, you may experience a temporary drop in connection and therefore no video feed.
You can forget a network, so it is no longer in the stored networks list. In Monitor View/Settings/Monitor Settings / WiFi Networks, long-press the network you want to forget. If you want to clear all known networks, press ‘clear all WiFi information’.
What to check/change in phone settings:
Ensure you are allowing the Dote app to send you notifications, access your camera and microphone and find devices on Bluetooth. While using the app, ensure your phone has a strong, private internet signal and it is not in a ‘do-not-disturb’ mode if you wish to receive notifications.
What devices (phones) are supported?
The Dote app is available on Apple Store and Google Play. The minimum requirements for use are a phone running iOS 13 or Android 9.0. For best functionality, use iOS 15 or Android 12.0.
