  • What do I need before getting started?
    Before setup, make sure you have: your Dote Buddy monitor, a dock, measuring tape and screwdriver for wall dock installation, your phone, strong, private Wi-Fi connection, and Bluetooth enabled on your phone. For the best app experience, your device should run: iOS 15+ or Android 12+, Bluetooth 4.2 or above.
  • How long does setup take?
    Most parents are fully set up in around 10-30 minutes, once the Buddy monitor is fully charged (which can take several hours), depending on your dock installation requirements.
  • Can I use Buddy without the app?
    No, you'll need the Dote app to complete setup, receive alerts, access live monitoring and use smart features like sleep tracking, Dottie our AI parenting assistant and family sharing.
  • Can more than one parent or caregiver access Buddy?
    Yes. First, decide who will be the owner of your account or village. The owner account has the greatest functionality and permissions and is the only one who can invite other trusted caregivers into your village, add children, add devices, set virtual boundaries and a few other things. Create the owner account first, then after setting things up, invite the other parent to join your village and have access. Do not try to connect the same device from two separate accounts as it won't work.
  • Can I use Buddy in the car or stroller?
    Yes. Buddy is designed for portable monitoring at home, in the car and on a stroller using the included docks and mounts. It runs on mains power or for approx. 2-3 hours on the battery. We recommend installing the charging cable in the car.
  • Why can't I connect Buddy to the app?
    Common fixes include: make sure Bluetooth is enabled, stay close to Buddy during pairing, ensure you have a strong, private Wi-Fi connection, ensure Buddy is charged, restart the app and try again.   • Where can I find safety and installation guidance?
    You can find full installation and safety instructions on the Setting up Docks and Accessories page or search for safety above.
  • Can I set up Buddy before my baby arrives?
    Yes. You can create your child's profile in the app before birth and edit later. Plus complete your setup ahead of time so everything is ready when baby arrives and you have to do that first nervous car journey.
